  • Apply for SASSA Grant
    • Being an anomaly among the developing nations, South Africa recognises the need to create an equitable society by wealth distribution. It does this by having a well-established social welfare system that offers social grants to the less fortunate members of the society. Every month there are more than 18 million SASSA grants payouts in South Africa. Read on to know more about the currently available social grants.

What do I need to apply for SASSA grant?

Now that you understand the different social financial assistance offered by the South African government, how do I apply for a SASSA grant? Here is the procedure for applying for any of the above SASSA financial aids:

      • Visit the nearest SASSA branch office to apply for a social grant. In case you are weak, sick, or too old to physically go, you can send a family member or a friend with a letter authorizing the application. Alternatively, you can request a SASSA official through a call to conduct a home visit.
      • The application process involves filling in the SASSA application form in the presence of an officer from the department. It is essential to ensure that the information that you provide on the SASSA application forms is legitimate.
      • The SASSA official will finish registering you for the financial assistance and offer you a receipt. which you need to keep as evidence of the application. You do not have to pay a dime for this process as it is free of charge.
      • In case your request is unsuccessful, SASSA must write a letter explaining its decision.
      • Individuals have the right to ask SASSA to review its decision if they feel it is unfair. Please note that this request has to be done within 90 days after receiving the application rejection notification. If one is still not given financial aid, they can appeal to the Minister of Social Development.
      • All applicants of social grants must have proof of identity. In case you do not have the 13-digit bar code ID card or a birth certificate for the kids, you need to contact SASSA to know which substitute documents can be used for the same purpose.
      • Once your application is successful, you will be issued a SASSA card as well as a bank account where the cash will be deposited every month. The card offered is linked to MasterCard; hence, you can use it to make purchases, withdraw funds, as well as other transactions without incurring additional costs.

      SASSA website

If you qualify for the social financial aid, you could check out the different payment options that the department has highlighted on sassa.gov.za. The payment options have outlined the charges that an applicant will incur when transacting the funds and the various methods on how to check SASSA balance.

  • Apply to Nyda Funding
    • Finding funding for a business or a business idea is a big challenge for most entrepreneurs. Thankfully, today we will dive into one of the cheapest kinds of financing available in South Africa. The South African government has set aside funds that will help grow businesses owned by the youth. 2021 could be the year your business soars to the heights you believe it can reach. Read on because we have prepared a comprehensive guide to the NYDA funding, which could help transform your vision into reality.

Our guide gives a brief introduction to who they are, the kind of funding they offer, and what you can and cannot do with the money they provide. We look at who qualifies to receive the funding, how to apply for the grant, how much you can get, and a lot more.

      What is NYDA all about?

The National Youth Development Agency provides financial and non-financial support to young entrepreneurs so that they can grow their businesses. This is made possible through their grant program, which we shall discuss in detail.

It takes more than money for a business to succeed, and that is why the agency also offers support services like NYDA mentorship, market linkage, Business Management Training Programmes, among others.

      NYDA Business funding

They provide three types of funding: partial, cofounding, and financing for a loan deposit from a legal lending institution.

They do not fund in the following circumstances:

      • Companies with an annual turnover of more than R750,000 and cooperatives with a yearly turnover of over R1,000,000 can not be beneficiaries of the grant.
      • The National Youth Development Agency staff and board members are not eligible.
      • They do not fund pyramid schemes and other illegal businesses.
      • If the applicant has been convicted of fraud, they can not be approved.
      • If the primary source of income is tobacco, alcohol, or gambling, they will not finance your business.
      • Seed funding for research and development is not allowed unless it is for mobile application prototypes.

How much can I receive from the NYDA?

They provide funding ranging from R1,000 to R200,000.

The grants are divided into four categories depending on the stage that the business is in.

      • Threshold 1- R1,000 to R10,000. Idea generation and survivalists (startups).
      • Threshold 2- R10,001 to R50,000. Startups PTY and cooperatives.
      • Threshold 3- R50,001 to R100,000. Growth stage PTY and cooperatives.
      • Threshold 4- R100,000 to R200,000. Expansion stage PTY and cooperatives.

For agricultural and technology-related businesses in threshold 4, their maximum grant is R250,000 because they are more capital intensive.

How can the grant money be used?

It can be used for buying assets, bridging finance, renovating a shop, or paying working capital to a grantee.

The NYDA grants should not be used for paying bribes, buying vehicles, refinancing existing loans, or settling overdue South Africa Revenue Services liabilities.

      Who qualifies for NYDA funding?

To receive the funding, these are their requirements:

      • The applicant must be a South African resident aged between 18-35 years.
      • They should also have a viable business idea that can make profits.
      • They are required to possess the skills and experience or potential skills for the business they are pitching.
      • They should be enrolled in the Business Management training course or have proof of having undergone the training course.
      • The membership should consist of 100% South African youth citizens.
      • The enterprise should operate in South Africa.
      • Previous microloan clients who received less than R50,000 will need to have paid up accounts to be eligible to receive a grant.
      • One or more members should be full-time employees. It is advisable that the applicant is among the full-time employees.
      • The agency will assign successful grantees a mentor if they do not already have one that is approved by them.
      • If the application is approved, the applicant may be required to resign from their full-time employment. Proof of resignation might be necessary as well.

How do I apply for NYDA?

      1. They need a 10-minute business pitch presentation from you. The pitch could be in person or telephonically.
      2. Applicants must apply three months before turning 35 years.
      3. All required documents should be submitted
      4. You will also need proof of enrollment in Business Management training course
      5. An official from the agency will perform a due diligence assessment

      Application forms

There are two ways to complete the NYDA application form. You can download the NYDA funding application forms 2021 pdf here, or you can fill out the form online.

      Dates

Applications are processed within 30 days at a branch. Disbursement of the approved is processed at the head office within 30 working days.

      How do I contact NYDA?

One way is to pay them a visit at any of their branches. These include:

      • The head office in Midrand on 54 Maxwell Drive, Woodmead North Office Park, Woodmead, 2191
      • NYDA Port Elizabeth branch, Kwantu towers
      • NYDA Pretoria branch, Middestad Mall
      • Kimberly branch at the Old Telkom building

      NYDA contact details

      • Their website at www.nyda.gov.za which will answer most of your questions.
      • Their call centre number is 0800 52 52 52.
      • You can also email them at info@nyda.gov.za

It would be wise to consider NYDA funding as a source of financing, especially if you are young and meet their requirements. Such funding will reduce your debt burden, and it will be easier to get additional financing from banks or investors in the future. An added benefit is the mentorship and market linkages they provide, which could open new frontiers for your business to grow and thrive.

Transferring students should also ensure that all transcripts and academic records are submitted as early as possible as well as that a final transcript of current studies being undertaken reaches the Admissions Office as soon as possible after receipt.

Are you looking to further your studies but lack the funding to do so? Do you have a strong academic history, which you have maintained throughout the year? Whether you’re in your last year of school and thinking about joining University or College next year, or if you’re a current student who cannot afford to continue paying for your studies – if you have a good academic record, but your household income does not permit you to study, you may qualify to apply for a bursary or scholarship award.ADVERTISEMENT

Most organisations that offer bursaries, require that their bursars complete a work/ training programme on completion of their studies, in lieu of the bursary awarded – this is beneficial for both parties, as the student has guaranteed employment after completion of their studies and the chance to gain invaluable work experience.

imply scroll down to your faculty of study, select a bursary which best suits your needs and follow the instructions provided on how to apply. It should be noted that students can apply for as many bursaries as they qualify for.

This application form must be completed in full by all students who are applying for a short course at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and certified copies of all supporting document must be enclosed.

Once this application form had been completed and the supporting documents are attached, it must be submitted to the course administrator responsible for the short course that you will be attending.

For example, some students can look forward to working with tablets and apps, while others will have access to video recordings and podcasts of lectures.

Students can expect to complete online test and assignments via Myclassroom (Cput blackboard). Other exciting tools include discussion forums, online group work forums, blogs and journals.

  • CSD Registration
    • CSD registration or better yet the Central Supplier Database is a government’s process of registering people that provide government certain goods and services. The Central Supplier Database (CSD) is what maintains a database of organisations, institutions and individuals who can provide goods and services to government. To register, you need to stick to a two-stage procedure with each stage having a number of steps.

To do business with the government, you must have been registered and entered in the CSD. You should therefore not ignore or downplay the CSD registration process, at least not if you want to be part of service providers that the government relies on.

Registering for the CSD South Africa

You should note that the CSD serves as the single source of key supplier information for organs of state providing consolidated, accurate, updated, complete and verified supplier information. All prospective businessmen that are interested in pursuing opportunities within the South African government, must register. Fortunately, you can always self-register on the Central Supplier Database as described below. Once you submit your details, they will be assessed for inclusion on the Central Supplier Database. Follow the procedures below to get started on the CSD form:

      Stage 1

      1. You must access the CSD site on ww.csd.gov.za
      2. You should register a new CSD account
      3. You will then receive an activation email on which you should click to activate the account.
      4. Log into the CSD
      5. Complete the supplier identification information required.
      6. Complete the industry classification info needed.
      7. Complete the contact information asked
      8. Complete address information requested
      9. Complete the bank information
      10. Complete tax information and details. This will make the end of stage one and usher in stage two of the application process.

      Stage 2

      1. Once the tax info is supplied, the next step would be to complete directors and members information, if the company is none CICP.
      2. Supply the associations details if relevant
      3. Complete the commodities information
      4. Maintain users
      5. Complete information on notifications
      6. If there is any relevance to do so, complete accreditation information.
      7. Complete the B-BBBE information
      8. Click submit to proceed
      9. You will get an auto-generated communication when you CSD supplier number and unique reference is sent to you.

      6. Complete the industry classification info needed.
      7. Complete the contact information asked
      8. Complete address information requested
      9. Complete the bank information
      10. Complete tax information and details. This will make the end of stage one and usher in stage two of the application process.

      Stage 2

      1. Once the tax info is supplied, the next step would be to complete directors and members information, if the company is none CICP.
      2. Supply the associations details if relevant
      3. Complete the commodities information
      4. Maintain users
      5. Complete information on notifications
      6. If there is any relevance to do so, complete accreditation information.
      7. Complete the B-BBBE information
      8. Click submit to proceed
      9. You will get an auto-generated communication when you CSD supplier number and unique reference is sent to you.
