Hello,

There are 3 ways of becoming a Foundation Phase School Teacher:

1. A 3 year Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree in Early Childhood Development, Foundation Phase

2. A 2 year National Diploma in Education: Foundation Phase (NQF Level 6)

3. A Postgraduate Certificate: Education: Foundation Phase. This route is for those who have already completed a degree (NOT BEd) and want to become teachers.

Once you’ve graduated, you will be required to register with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) as an Educator.

Each institution have their specific requirements for admissions

Example ;

  1. Unisa Foundation phase Requirements
  2. CPUT Foundation phase Requirements
  3. wits foundation phase requirements
  4. NMU FOUNDATION PHASE REQUIREMENTS

The cost of the study basically depends on which institution she will be offering the program. Average she could be paying between R20,000 and above per anum.

Also based on where she might be offering her program, she qualifies to apply for financial aid in the form of bursaries and loans.

Unisa for example offers the program by correspondence

Best Wishes
