Finding funding for a business or a business idea is a big challenge for most entrepreneurs. Thankfully, today we will dive into one of the cheapest kinds of financing available in South Africa. The South African government has set aside funds that will help grow businesses owned by the youth. 2021 could be the year your business soars to the heights you believe it can reach. Read on because we have prepared a comprehensive guide to the NYDA funding, which could help transform your vision into reality.
Our guide gives a brief introduction to who they are, the kind of funding they offer, and what you can and cannot do with the money they provide. We look at who qualifies to receive the funding, how to apply for the grant, how much you can get, and a lot more.
The National Youth Development Agency provides financial and non-financial support to young entrepreneurs so that they can grow their businesses. This is made possible through their grant program, which we shall discuss in detail.
It takes more than money for a business to succeed, and that is why the agency also offers support services like NYDA mentorship, market linkage, Business Management Training Programmes, among others.
They provide three types of funding: partial, cofounding, and financing for a loan deposit from a legal lending institution.
They do not fund in the following circumstances:
They provide funding ranging from R1,000 to R200,000.
The grants are divided into four categories depending on the stage that the business is in.
For agricultural and technology-related businesses in threshold 4, their maximum grant is R250,000 because they are more capital intensive.
It can be used for buying assets, bridging finance, renovating a shop, or paying working capital to a grantee.
The NYDA grants should not be used for paying bribes, buying vehicles, refinancing existing loans, or settling overdue South Africa Revenue Services liabilities.
To receive the funding, these are their requirements:
There are two ways to complete the NYDA application form. You can download the NYDA funding application forms 2021 pdf here, or you can fill out the form online.
Applications are processed within 30 days at a branch. Disbursement of the approved is processed at the head office within 30 working days.
One way is to pay them a visit at any of their branches. These include:
It would be wise to consider NYDA funding as a source of financing, especially if you are young and meet their requirements. Such funding will reduce your debt burden, and it will be easier to get additional financing from banks or investors in the future. An added benefit is the mentorship and market linkages they provide, which could open new frontiers for your business to grow and thrive.

CSD registration or better yet the Central Supplier Database is a government’s process of registering people that provide government certain goods and services. The Central Supplier Database (CSD) is what maintains a database of organisations, institutions and individuals who can provide goods and services to government. To register, you need to stick to a two-stage procedure with each stage having a number of steps.
To do business with the government, you must have been registered and entered in the CSD. You should therefore not ignore or downplay the CSD registration process, at least not if you want to be part of service providers that the government relies on.
You should note that the CSD serves as the single source of key supplier information for organs of state providing consolidated, accurate, updated, complete and verified supplier information. All prospective businessmen that are interested in pursuing opportunities within the South African government, must register. Fortunately, you can always self-register on the Central Supplier Database as described below. Once you submit your details, they will be assessed for inclusion on the Central Supplier Database. Follow the procedures below to get started on the CSD form:
Note that the registration process has an additional functionality where you can view supplier overview info and also view reports. This addresses the concern on how to get CSD report whenever you need them. You can always get them on the website you applied in.
Once you have complied with the CSD registration requirements and followed the procedure above, all you need to do is await the response which will come in soon. If you qualify to be added as a service provider, then you will become the newest person to do business with the government.
CSD registration is easy. All you have to do when you desire to work with the government is to ensure that you enter the suppliers list. With info on how to get started, anyone that qualifies has a chance of being a business partner with the South African government.ADVERTISEMENT
